Where you incline a small tree, in that way will it grow...”
Raising Youth

Over our children hangs the danger of spiritual devastation. They cease to feel pity for the sick and infirm, cease to protect those younger than themselves, and judge those who are more poorly dressed. Gradually they are losing the likeness to God in whose image they were created. With the help of God and through our parental efforts we are obliged to try and stop this hardening of their souls and loss of belief. We live in a dangerous world and only the Church can help us. The robber is television, iPod, and computers that bite into the souls of children holding them in their deadly grip to full devastation. What are our children watching on television? Show that tell them when they should laugh, that do not teach love of God and compassion. They wear t-shirts with images of skulls and cross bones, and that display the names of rock groups such as KISS (king satan)! Our children conceived in a culture of unbelief are often possessed by a spirit of rage and slyness surpassing adults. Unknowing, simple hearted children play like adults using cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs in search of pleasurable sensations. Sometimes for the sake of this poison they turn to stealing. As unthinking parents we let television programs into our homes depicting sorcerers such as Harry Potter. Watching such programs more quickly and reliably leads to the irrevocable ruin of the soul. Our care as parents should consist of teaching the fear of God and Orthodox concepts. Teaching our children by example in all aspects of life.
