On the second Sunday after Pascha, the church commemorates the Holy Myrrhbearing Women, who were the first to receive the glad tidings of the risen Lord. Having come early to the tomb to annoint the body of our Lord, they found the stone rolled back, the grave clothes folded and the tomb empty. They were greeted by an angel who proclaimed the glad tidings of the risen Lord: "Why do ye seek the living among the dead" and "Go proclaim the glad tidings to the Apostles."
On this day, our parish celebrates the Sisterhood of the cathedral who are named after the Myrrhbearing Women. It is likewise the namesday of the Brotherhood of St Joseph of Arimethea and St. Nicodemus. A procession with the cross at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy was followed by a festive luncheon prepared and served by the Brotherhood.
